Plans, words & the free tier
Transept is word-based. You spend words when a block is translated; everything else is free. Here’s how the plans and words fit together.

What are the plans and what do they cost?
Three plans. Free is €0/mo with 1,500 words and no card; Starter is €29/mo with 100,000 words; Pro is €79/mo with 300,000 words. Every plan has the full editor — paid plans add Pro mode, batch translation, and unlimited Literess.
- On the Free plan, the header’s Translate-all button runs a one-shot preview of the first 500 source words of a document (cut at a block boundary), once per document. After that you translate block by block, up to your monthly words. Paid plans translate a whole document in one run.
- Creating a team and inviting people is free on every plan. Seats are optional — they fund a shared word pool at €29/mo (Starter) or €79/mo (Pro) each, and every seat adds that plan’s words to the pool.
| Plan | Price | Words / month | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | 1,500 (about five pages) | Full editor, Fast and Standard mode, 10 lifetime messages with Literess. Create one team and invite collaborators free. No card. |
| Starter | €29/mo | 100,000 | Adds Pro mode, batch translation, unlimited Literess, and unlimited teams. |
| Pro | €79/mo | 300,000 | Everything in Starter, plus priority support. For higher volume and agencies. |
What counts as a word?
A word is a unit of translation budget tied to source words. Fast and Standard mode cost 1 word per source word; Pro costs 3. Words are spent when a block is translated — that is the only thing that spends them. Editing by hand, reworking a sentence, asking for alternatives, leaving comments, and exporting are all free, so refining a translation until it reads right never costs you more.
Plan words reset every billing cycle. Top-up packs never expire, so anything you buy stays until you use it. Run out mid-job and existing translations stay put — new jobs pause until you top up, then pick up where you left off.
| Pack | Words | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 50,000 | €19 |
| Medium | 200,000 | €69 |
| Large | 500,000 | €149 |
Why does the estimate show a range instead of one number?
Some runs can’t know their exact cost until they happen. A proofread reads everything but bills only the blocks that actually need a fix. Translate always skips blocks that already have a translation. And in large-parallel mode, the AI sync passes bill only when they actually update the shared glossary and style guide. So instead of one number, the estimate shows a range: the floor is the work that will definitely run, the ceiling assumes everything gets touched.
When you confirm, the ceiling is held from your balance so the run can always finish. As it works, you’re billed only for what was actually done — and when it completes, the unused part of the hold is returned automatically. You never pay the ceiling unless every block genuinely needed work. The same applies if a run fails or is cancelled partway: only completed work is charged, the rest of the hold is released.
Do unused words roll over to the next month?
Plan words do not — they reset at the start of each billing cycle. Top-up pack words do: packs never expire, so anything you buy stays on your balance until you use it.
Does translating into several languages cost more?
Yes — words are billed as source words × target languages × the mode multiplier. A 2,000-word document into three languages in Standard mode is 6,000 words. The estimate is shown before a run starts.
What happens if I run out of words in the middle of a document?
Nothing breaks and your balance never goes negative. A run never spends more words than you have: Transept translates as much as fits from the top and tells you exactly how many blocks that covered and how many more words would finish the rest. Existing translations stay put.
Does my team share one pool of words?
Only if you buy seats. Creating a team and inviting people is free on every plan, and without a shared pool each member’s work bills their own balance. Seats are optional and exist purely to fund a shared pool — see Teams & invites.
