Importing your work

Maintained by Vitalii VlasiukCo-founder

You can start a document from anywhere you’d start one — the dashboard, the upload dialog, or a starting point.

On this page

What can I import, and from where?

  • Files — DOCX, PDF, MD, or TXT, via the dropzone or the upload dialog.
  • Notion — connect once via OAuth, pick a page, import it as a document.
  • Google Drive — connect via OAuth, pick a Doc or supported file.
  • Paste — raw text through the Paste dialog.
Four ways in.

Can I apply a workflow while importing?

Importing from Notion or Drive while using a starting point applies that type’s settings (category, styleguide, hints) to the imported document — so it arrives already configured.

Common questions

Is there a limit on how long a document can be?

No — Transept has no length limit on documents. A 200-page book and a one-page memo go through the same pipeline, split into blocks the same way.

Why doesn’t the Notion picker show the pages inside my page?

Notion’s search only returns shared top-level pages and databases by title — it never lists the sub-pages nested inside a page. Click the Open chevron on the parent page’s row to step inside and browse, or paste the parent page’s URL. If even the parent is missing from the list, open it in Notion and share it with Transept via ••• → Connections.

Why isn’t my file showing in the Google Drive picker?

The picker hides unsupported types. Check that the file is a Google Doc, DOCX, MD, TXT, or PDF.

Does importing a document cost words?

No. Importing, pasting, and setting a document up are free — words are spent only when a block is translated.
