The old town unfolds at its own pace — a courtyard here, a hidden café there. Sit where the locals sit, try whatever the waiter recommends, and let the city come to you. The best discoveries here happen by accident, somewhere between your second coffee and a conversation you half-understand.

What it actually does, in five chapters

  • I.

Bring in any document, get a translation

DOCX, PDF, MD, TXT — or paste raw text. Side-by-side editor, your language pair on the way in. Translation is the starting point, not the destination.

  • II.

A glossary that travels with you

Build once, toggle on per project. Terminology stays consistent — page 1 to page 500, language 1 to language 12.

  • III.

Steer any sentence with a direction

Sentence-level control. Add a custom direction ("more formal," "keep the metaphor") and your glossary and styleguide feed in automatically — so the rewrite obeys your terminology and stays in your tone. The rest of the page stays put.

  • IV.

Literess catches what you would miss

A literary editor at your side — and she remembers your projects and preferences between documents. She reads the translation, flags where the tone has flattened or the meaning has drifted, and leaves comments on the blocks that need a second look.

    Review and ship

A clean reading view for the final pass. Comments on any block; reply and resolve in place. Send a link to a reviewer or client — no DOCX-by-email.

The origin story

Nothing could translate what we wrote — so we built what could

Two writers, one problem.

Vitalii.I wrote 120,000 words of satirical romance fantasy — mages drowning in debt, a multiverse economy that makes Wall Street look ethical, and a love story tangled up in all of it.

Mariia.I write semi-fictional stories about real people, built around how it felt. Most of the people I wrote about were foreigners. We met in English, spoke in English, lived those moments in English. So I wrote them that way too.

“But I sometimes wonder what version of them I missed by not writing them in their language.”Mariia

Vitalii. The same flatness hit me from the other side. Every tool I tried preserved the words but killed the voice. Tone, rhythm, wit, emotional texture — nothing held. It all came back flatter than it went in.

Both of us.So we did what we know how to do. We read the machine-translation papers. We benchmarked Claude, GPT, Gemini, and a handful of open models on the same 50-page chapter — judging accuracy, tone, and whether the satire still landed. None of them held all three; each failed in a different way. So we built the tool we wished had existed when we started.

Footnotes

The questions people ask first

  • Standard is fast and accurate — great for most content. Premium uses a more capable model that better preserves nuance, tone, and voice; it costs 3× the words from your plan but is worth it for novels, nuanced marketing, or anything where the writing matters. You can switch per document or per sentence.
  • Upload DOCX, PDF, Markdown, or TXT. Or import directly from Notion or Google Drive, or paste raw text. Export back to DOCX, Notion, Google Docs, or Markdown — your workflow stays yours.
  • Yes — 1,500 words per month, no credit card required. That's roughly 5 pages, with every feature unlocked: glossary, styleguide, QA, comments, sharing, all of it. Upgrade only when you outgrow it.
  • Yes — that's the core of Transept. Build a glossary for your terms (character names, branded phrases, technical jargon) and a styleguide for tone, style, and rules. Toggle them on per document and the same terminology and tone carry across every translation, page 1 to page 500.
  • Yes. Tell her you prefer British spelling, or that you're translating a sci-fi trilogy, and she'll bring it back next time. Up to 20 notes per account — review or clear them whenever.
  • Yes. Invite teammates or share a document with specific people for view or edit. Leave comments on any sentence, resolve threads, and track changes in the activity feed — no more emailing DOCX files around with "v7_FINAL_final" in the name.
