• Does Smart Proofread cost credits?+

  Yes: a small read fee on every word it checks (0.2 credits per word), plus your document’s mode rate on the blocks it fixes. Blocks that already read well get no fix and no fix charge, which is why the dialog shows the price as a range before it runs.

• Can I proofread a selection instead of the whole document?+

  You can select any range and run Smart Proofread on just that part, which is handy when you work through a book chapter by chapter.

• What happens to my hand edits during a proofread?+

  They are part of the translation it reads, and it edits minimally: it keeps every word it has no reason to change. If it does change a block you edited, Review changes puts your earlier text one click away, and reverting a change tells the next proofread to leave that wording alone.

• How is it different from Vision Proofread?+

  Smart Proofread reads the text. Vision Proofread looks at the rendered page the way a reader would, so it catches layout and visual problems that a text-only review misses.

• Is Smart Proofread AI-powered machine translation with human review?+

  It’s the part that makes that workflow practical. Raw machine translation gives you a draft, and Smart Proofread is the automated translation review that re-reads it for drift before a person looks at it. Your human review is then spent on judgment calls instead of hunting for a glossary term that slipped on page 40. That’s AI-powered machine translation with human review, with the tedious first sweep done for you.

• What does Smart Proofread check for?+

  Smart Proofread checks glossary compliance (missed terms, inconsistent translations, accidental synonyms), styleguide compliance (register slips, tone drift, changes in sentence rhythm), terminology consistency across the document, the handling of numbers, dates, and units, and anything omitted or added compared with the source.

• How long does Smart Proofread take?+

  It depends on the length of the document and the model. On a document of several pages it reads one page at a time, so the first page’s fixes land before the rest is read, and the progress message shows where it is. When it finishes, Review changes opens every changed block.

• Will Smart Proofread flag false positives?+

  Sometimes, especially when your styleguide deliberately breaks with convention. Every change it makes is listed under Review changes, and reverting one takes a click. A reverted change also tells the next proofread to leave that wording alone.

• How does Smart Proofread compare to a human editor?+

  It catches what a tired editor misses (terminology drift, register slips), but not what a fresh editor catches (cultural fit, deeper meaning, the hard-to-describe “feel” of a text). Most professional teams use both: Smart Proofread for consistency, a human editor for judgment.
